First of April is called all fools day. Friends try to make fool of a friend by hoax news or through other practical pranks. Although the origin is not clear. Most probably it was in 1582 that France shifted from Julian calendar to Gregorian calendar. With it the start of the year shifted from 1st January to 1st April.
