The Fandango Hot List

The Top 10 Sexiest Women in 2009 Movies

10. Halle Berry:

As Hollywood legend has it, Oscar-winning actress Berry was reportedly offered an extra $500,000 (above and beyond her salary) to bare her breasts in the 2001 thriller Swordfish, in which her free-spirit character flashes fellow Fandango Hot-Lister Hugh Jackman. A recent costume malfunction on the set of her new film, Frankie and Alice, once again exposed Berry to the world and may have helped boost the new mama’s popularity on the 2009 Hot List, after a short two-year hiatus from the big screen.

9. Nicole Kidman:

Time appears to stands still for this forty-something Oscar winner, who still projects the energy and radiance of her earliest films like Dead Calm and her 1983 debut film, BMX Bandits. Despite the disappointing domestic box office performance of Australia, moviegoers are still looking forward to her appearance as the exotic muse in the big-screen musical, Nine, from Chicago director Rob Marshall, while fans hope her post-baby plans for big-screen retirement may be premature.

8. Jennifer Aniston:

The title of Aniston’s new romantic comedy, He’s Just Not that Into You, has nothing to do with sentiments that may have been expressed by her former partner, Brad Pitt, who ranks #5 among men on the 2009 Fandango Hot List.  The star of Marley and Me certainly has her legion of fans, but they may be mostly female, since she got higher placement among women moviegoers, who listed her second on their version of the Hot List, right after Megan Fox.

7. Jessica Biel:

Ever since Biel scrapped her squeaky-clean 7th Heaven image for a wild photo shoot in Gear magazine, men have selected Biel as a top pick on sexiest women in Hollywood lists. Her upcoming role in the L.A.-based film noir, Powder Blue, should continue to turn heads – since she plays a exotic dancer at Patrick Swayyze’s strip club. Not surprisingly, the film’s trailer is one of the most-viewed film clips on the Web.

6. Kate Beckinsale,

As a spandex-wearing vampire vixen in Underworld and its sequel, the English-born stunner figured prominently in Fandango’s list of Cinema’s Sexiest Vampires, so she clearly has her fans on our site. There’s talk of an Oscar nomination for Kate’s serious turn as a reporter in Rod Lurie’s thriller, Nothing But the Truth, but genre fans will be happy to know she’s back in action in Whiteout, based on the cult graphic novel, in which she plays a sexy U.S. Marshall assigned to investigate a murder in Antartica.

5. Salma Hayek: Cirque du Freak

Guys must have a thing for female vampires…and many fanboys still remember Salma’s vampiric dance with a snake in front of the film’s writer/co-producer/star Quentin Tarantino in From Dusk Till Dawn. She too made our Sexy Vampire list.

After a brief baby break, Salma returns to the horror genre with Cirque du Freak, based on the series of popular young adult novels about vampires and werewolves, directed by Paul Weitz (whose brother, Chris Weitz, will also bring to life similar creatures in New Moon). In Freak, Salma plays Madame Truska, a bearded lady with even more facial hair than she sported in her Oscar-nominated Frida. (It’s quite likely the guys who voted her onto the Fandango Hot List hadn’t seen the photos of bearded Salma yet!)

4.  Charlize Theron:

Charlize may have been selected by male moviegoers as the fourth sexiest woman in the movies for 2009, but that’s because no one has seen her next movie, The Road, featuring the actress’ most unglamorous role since her Oscar-winning turn in Monster. In this big-screen adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s post-apocalyptic novel, Charlize is seen mostly in flashbacks, in the small but critical role of Viggo Mortensen’s suicidal wife.

3. Scarlett Johansson:

Frank Miller’s The Spirit co-stars some of the sexiest women of the big screen, including Eva Mendes and Jaime King, but it was Scarlett Johansson who inspired Miller to rewrite the role of sexually repressed astrophysicist “Silken Floss” (yes, that’s her character’s name) especially for her talents. In 2009, Scarlett appears in the romantic comedy, He’s Just Not That Into You, following a path blazed by her new real-life husband, Ryan Reynolds, who starred in Just Friends, Definitely, Maybe and co-stars in the summer Sandra Bullock comedy, The Proposal.

2. Jessica Alba: An Invisible Sign of My Own

What is it about having a baby that makes a woman so damned sexy? Four of the Fandango Hot-Listers (Halle, Nicole, Salma and Jessica) are relatively new mamas. Do we love them (or envy them?) because their hourglass figures are simply unreal? With Alba, it’s possible there’s a sympathy factor – anyone who has survived The Love Guru, The Eye, Awake and other oddities, deserves our support. Fans are hoping that her role as a math teacher in the 2009 coming-of-age drama, Invisible, will prove that she can act, while male moviegoers in particular are waiting for her to rock their world all over again in Sin City 2, due in 2010.

1. Megan Fox: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Jennifer’s Body

It is surprising to note that both male and female moviegoers chose Megan Fox as the Sexiest Woman in 2009 movies. No doubt her eye-popping GQ photos, along with her upcoming role in the Diablo Cody-scripted demon cheerleader horror comedy, Jennifer’s Body, in which she may or may not appear topless, helped catapult Fox to the top.

But for drooling 14-year-old fanboys of all ages, Fox already achieved screen immortality in the first Transformers when her skimpily-dressed character leaned over under Shia LaBeouf’s hood to adjust his parts – a scene that will be difficult to top in Transformers 2.
